Goblin (Pukwudgie) Footprints seen in Kentucky and New Hampshire

Off-Roaders Discover Trail of Three-Toed “Monster Prints” in Concord, New Hampshire

monsterfootprints
Two kids enjoying some off-road action hit the brakes last weekend when they stumbled onto a trail of three-toed footprints in the mud. They aren’t certain of what left them, but they aren’t ruling out a “monster”.
monsterprintA young man known only as Josh found the prints while four-wheeling his way to the local swimming hole in Concord, New Hampshire. When his girlfriend realized how strange the tracks appeared, she didn’t waste any time pulling out her cellphone and comparing the prints to hers.
“Guys this is not faked or anything,” Josh wrote on YouTube. “We were four-wheeling to the quarry ( were me and [my] gf swim) and we stumbled across these foot prints. Are these a possible monster?”[ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQA6bRjefYU&feature=youtu.be ]
The jury is still out on that, but lucky for us, Josh has posted a number of videos online for internet cryptozoologists to pour over.
The prints seem to be roughly the length of a human’s, but a bit wider. Plus, there’s that thing about only three toes. Interestingly, the impressions look quite a bit like the prints left by “goblins” in Kentucky last summer.
Check out the videos below and let us know what you think made the weird prints. Share your thoughts with us on Facebook or tweet us @WhoForted!

I am going on the assumption that these are footprints of Tyler Stone's Freshwater Monkeys, known traditionally as Pukwudgies and often called "Goblins" or "Watersprites"/ Some of the earlier tracks found in the Midwest were like this and were called "Frogfoot" locally: they are also linked to the stories of the Kelly-Hopkinsville (Kentucky) Goblins and there are even some older reports of the 3-toed tracks in the Ohio River Valley, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. These are very like some tracks attributed to Kappas in Japan, and similar to the feet of the Kappas as they are depicted in artwork.

Have the Kentucky Goblins Returned? Exclusive Photos!

In the fall of 1955, anomalous researchers all over North America became familiar with the Sutton family farm, the scene of one of the most intriguing cases in the history of extraterrestrial visitation. The events, witnessed by dozens of credible witnesses, centered around nightly attacks by “little green men”. While the status of these creatures is often argued as everything from space aliens, goblins, or even the official military explanation of “silver painted circus monkey”, the attacks that became known as the Kelly-Hopkinsville Encounter, or the Hopkinsville Goblins Case, ceased as quickly as they began, with the strange creatures disappearing into the pages of UFOlogy books for the next 50 years.
I mention the Hopkinsville case only because it bears a striking similarity to the events that one man claims have occurred to he and his family over the past year in the very same state; events that have led some to believe that the Goblins have returned. Only this time, they’ve left evidence of their visit.
Strap in, reader. It’s going to get very weird very quickly.
Two months ago, I received an email at an account belonging to my long defunct ghost hunting outfit by the name of Ghost Hunters, Incorporated. The GHI website is so old that it hasn’t had a proper update in roughly eight years. I’ll pop in and check the mail about once a month or so, but generally at this point we only receive emails intended for the cast of Ghost Hunters, requests for driving directions to our old haunts, and the occasional invitation to speak at a conference. This email, however, was different. This email was a plea for help.
The following is the complete email sent to ghosthuntersinc(at)gmail.com on April 22. I’ve removed only identifying names and locations. We’ll call the sender “David” from here on out.
Hello, my name is [David]. I received your contact information through a mutual acquaintance who assures me that you are well equipped to investigate peculiar problems. Furthermore, I believe you may have interest in these events beyond any compensation that I am prepared to deliver in order to have these issues sorted.
For the past 6 months I have been living in a rural home located on the border of West Virginia and Kentucky where my family is nightly assaulted by creatures that I have come to believe are of an extraterrestrial origin. These beings appear to be the size and stature of a small child, devoid of any facial features save for large, oily eyes and lipless mouths. They frighten my children by peering through their bedroom windows, chirping at one another. They actively attempt to enter my home in the middle of the night. Last month they took my dog. The police refuse to provide any further assistance, attributing the problems to wild animals and forwarding my complaints to the state game commission.
I believe they are coming from an abandoned mine located on the edge of my property. Though I’m armed, I’m afraid that I’m far too frightened to enter the mine by my lonesome, and cannot convince any sympathetic friends to accompany me, though I cannot blame them. I am convinced that the only answer is to collapse the mine.
I believe this is where we can be mutually beneficial to one another. If you are prepared to assist me in this matter, I can offer you permission to record and document these events under the condition of anonymity. I can guarantee you evidence of these creatures which I assure you are not “wild animals”.
Please respond ASAP. Thank you.
Let me make it clear that as GHI, we have never once investigated any claims of extraterrestrials or UFOs. We may or may not have created a crop circle or two in our teenage years, but that is about the closest we’ve ever come to chasing space aliens. Unless you count spying on Nick Foust’s dating life.
As you can see from the image of the gang, we were 110% professional back in those days. Clearly the kind of fine young men you’d want investigating the terrifying occurrences plaguing your home.
Thinking the email was obviously a joke, I wrote back stating that we unfortunately had no experience with extraterrestrials or explosives, but we’d be glad to assist if he wouldn’t mind elaborating on the details and providing some evidence. I posted the email (sans identifiers, of course) to a paranormal message board that I frequent, as well as my Facebook account, and it quickly became a subject of fun speculation. Who is this guy? Why would he email a ghost hunting group for a space alien problem? Who was this “mutual friend” that was mentioned? Why would space faring beings be living in a cave? Is blowing up an abandoned mine shaft even legal? And of course, the question anyone with a passing interest in the paranormal was asking themselves: what if he’s telling the truth?
These conversations quickly led to the creation of the Alien Cave Base Task Force, a rag-tag group of adventurous friends and strangers who half-seriously pledged to travel to Kentucky with the intention of going on an adventure and seeing if Dave was for real. We even made t-shirts. I don’t think any of us honestly believed that there was any chance of this trip actually happening.
After a few more jokes about dying in a mine collapse, I hit the sack, not thinking much more of the strange email or the Task Force. The following day GHI had a new message from Dave sitting in their inbox.
Thank you for the prompt response. I do not blame you for being skeptical of my story. I appreciate you keeping an open mind about my situation and I am more than happy to provide you with as much information as I am able.
I was given your contact information through a man by the name of Terry Wriste [Editors Note: I’ve left this name untouched due to it’s relevance and the fact that I don’t believe it to be a real person - we'll come back to this]. When these disturbances first began occurring, I was only inclined to confide in a personal friend who I knew had fringe interests. He offered to share my concerns with a man that had dealt with somewhat similar experiences in previous years. I accepted his offer. Within a week I was informed that this gentleman had long since retired from pursuits of this kind but was willing to provide me with contacts who may be willing to help. This is how I came to contact you. I do not have any answer to “why” other than a referral and recommendation from a gentleman I do not know personally. I was under the impression that you would answer that question.
I am located in Pike County, just outside the town of [redacted], Kentucky. [redacted] is located roughly 30 to 60 minutes from the borders of Virginia and West Virginia respectively. Most of Pike County is made up of small towns and rural communities; it is not uncommon to go days without seeing my closest neighbors. I moved to this area for the peace and quiet. I have received neither.
I have lived in this area for just under seven months and in that time the majority of the harassment has occurred within the past three. I did not become aware of any strangeness until early December, although that is only when I began to keep a record of these events. At first it was merely strange tracks in the snow around my home. I had initially imagined that they were from some kind of animal, though it closely resembled a human footprint minus the heel. At that time I was under the impression that it was simply a single creature. It wasn’t until the weeks later that I began to suspect that I was dealing with a number of what I thought were individuals “hazing” me upon my arrival to the area.
At this point I was incapable of keeping my dog outdoors overnight. Any attempt to leave her leashed would result in her barking herself hoarse until she was allowed back indoors. In the weeks leading up to this particular evening I had awoken to find my shed doors open on several occasions, many of my children’s toys missing or moved, and my yard in general disarray. I had already given a report to the police, who were making it increasingly clear that they were not interested in my case barring psychical harm or large scale theft.
The second week of January I am having breakfast with my family when my five year old daughter begins talking about the “kids without hair”. When my wife inquired about these kids, she informed us that she had spent the previous night watching them play in the yard. As you can imagine, this was of some concern. I asked my daughter what these kids looked like, she told me that they “were bald like grandpa and weren’t wearing any clothes”. The very same day I found the wreath that hangs inside our rear porch stuffed into our mailbox. I purchased and installed motion activated floodlights the following day and for a time, the problems ceased. It wasn’t until the end of February that our daughter informed us that the “bald kids” had returned.
I was awoken to the sound to my daughter screaming and rushed to her bedroom only to meet her halfway down the hall. When my wife and I were finally able to calm her down enough to speak, she told us that the kids were trying to peer into her window but they couldn’t reach, and instead, had taken to tapping on it. She hasn’t slept in her own bedroom since. It was that morning that I phoned the police for the second the time, and they responded by finally sending a trooper to our residence. I informed him of the regular mischief, how I was now unable to let my dog outdoors after dusk, and of the “bald kids”. When we found the ground disturbed just under my daughter’s bedroom window the officer informed me, very matter-of-factly, that we were dealing with an animal and I would be better off contacting the game commission than waste their resources any further.
Almost every day for the following week, I would find some evidence that something or someone had been on my property the previous night. Smudges on the windows were not uncommon, stones from the walkway dragged to the other side of the lawn, and I had found tears in the screen door. On Wednesday the 7th of March I finally witnessed the “kids without hair” for myself.
The dog woke me up around 1:30 AM, scratching at the back door and whimpering to be let out. I noticed that the motion floodlight was on, and went to the kitchen window to check that the shed doors were still closed when I realized that I could see the shadow of an individual cast across my lawn. From the angle I was positioned at the window I could not actually see the source of the shadow or the floodlights. The dog was pacing circles around the back door and I could hear someone rifling through a box on the porch. Filled with more anger than common sense, the only reaction I could muster was to bang loudly on the window and yell, at which point I heard the screen door on the porch swing open and slam against the house. I heard what I can only describe as “chirping” at this point. It sounded much like a skunk, if more guttural. I then realized that there were more than two people on my property, and the shadow, which had been reacting as if it didn’t know which way to run, was quickly joined by another. For a moment I watched as the shadows chirped at one another when I noticed a figure out of the corner of my eye.
Standing in the flower bed just to the bottom left of my window was a small, humanoid figure, with sickly pale skin, completely hairless, standing roughly 4′. It was looking in the direction of the shadows, and had clearly come from around the left side of the house opposite the porch and had not noticed me as far as I could tell. It’s face was devoid of features, save for large round eyes, very reminiscent in shape and color of a bird’s eye. It had no nose to speak of, and only a small slit for a mouth. It didn’t appear to move it’s mouth as it chirped, sounding more as if the noises originated from it’s throat. It was most certainly not a “wild animal” and even more certainly not a child. I was too terrified to move, and watched as the creature hopped to the others, and together they scrambled into the woods on the right side of my property. It was clear that there were at least five in the group.
I have not mentioned this particular incident to my wife, and the only other person who I’ve spoken to about these creatures are yourself and the close friend who introduced me to our mutual friend Mr. Wriste. I would prefer to keep things that way, and to approach this problem as discreetly as possible. Since that evening, my dog has gone missing from the porch, yet to return, and I can only imagine that his disappearance has to do with these creatures. I’ve gone looking for him during daylight hours, only to find many of my missing belongings scattered at the entrance to an abandoned mine shaft at the far edge of my property. I don’t dare go inside.
My friend has convinced me that my experience is similar to that of other “visitation” experiences, providing me with material and references that back up his claims. I am aware of the outlandish nature of what I have told you, but I am afraid that I have no other explanation for what I have seen, at least at this time. I can see no other option than to seal the entrance to the mine. I cannot achieve this on my own, and I am too frightened to try. I don’t dare share this information with others for fear of ruining my career and the reputation of my family. I am prepared to compensate your travel expenses and offer you unrestricted access with whatever recording equipment that you desire but only on the condition of complete anonymity. Beyond that, I have no other desire than to be rid of this problem.
Please inform me of what you would like photographs of and where to send them.
Thank you again.
I immediately felt the urge to take the Alien Cave Base Task Force a bit more seriously..
Lets recap, shall we? Small, child-size creatures? Check. Terror-stricken family? Check. Desolate property in rural Kentucky? Check. It all sounds very familiar.
Something that didn’t sound familiar, however, was the name Terry Wriste. In fact, I don’t think I’d ever heard the name before and after asking a few other GHI alumni I was certain they never had either. Was he someone we’d met at a convention many years ago? Someone we’d gone to high school with? A friend of a friend of a friend? The answer is none of the above. In fact, Terry Wriste isn’t even a real name.
A bit of googling provides only one source for the name Terry R. Wriste: a pseudonym used by an ex-military occultist interviewed in two rather obscure books printed in the mid-nineties. Titled The Secret Cipher of the Ufonauts and The Secret Rituals of the Men In Black, these particular books are about as fringe as you can get when it comes to ufology, with instructions on contacting “ultraterrestrials” via occult rituals supposedly deciphered by Aleister Crowley himself.
Just before the index of each book, author Allen Greenfield conducts an interview with Terry, who willingly admits that his name is not real. In these interviews, Wriste speaks of a guerrilla group of Vietnam veterans formed in the early 70’s whose directives included the infiltration and destruction of underground alien bases in and around the southern USA. After explaining how the team formed and where many of these cave entrances were located (including one entrance at the famous Brown Mountain in North Carolina), he goes on to describe the botched mission that caused him to retire from kicking space alien ass.
“…we were in a kind of cavern, only, I’d say, artificially hollowed out and illuminated by a greenish glow, defuse; not from a single, identifiable source. Anyhow, the whole area resembled (ufologist Dick) Shaver’s less exotic subterranean story descriptions, and, in more recent terms, some of the modern alien base stories. We were confronted by these small, grayish beings—humanoid only in the technical sense—and one of our guys said “Dero!” and started shooting. He had an M-1 rifle, if I recall. One shot, and [the little gray being] was illuminated in blue, and just gone. Then there was a sound, and I felt my own gun, an M-16, get unbearably hot. I dropped it, turned to run, and was confronted by two of these little gray-skinned guys with a net. Whatever had convinced me my rifle was hot had apparently not focused on my pistol, a vintage Luger, and one of the little net-holders received the last surprise of its life. It kind of exploded, and the other one dropped the net and ran, up the slope, with me suddenly in pursuit. When we got beyond the lighted area, though, it was just gone. I heard gun fire and explosions behind me, and that god-awful hum, and I continued, pistol in hand, looking around wildly, to go back the way I came. Only three of us ever made it back to the surface. One of them died a year or so later, of leukemia, I think. He was only about 24-25, so maybe there’s a connection.”
Wriste also talks of meeting a group of extraterrestrial refugees led by none other than Indrid Cold. Yes, that Indrid Cold. But I digress. Feel free to read the books yourself,  as they’re freely available online.
I wouldn’t be surprised to find that there are other folks out there with the name Terry Wriste, but the coincidence can’t be ignored.  Was David instructed by the very same Wriste? Probably not. It’s possible that David came into contact with a man that claims to have gone A-Team on ET, but it’s also more likely that it’s someone with a background in esoterica having some fun at his expense. Or ours.
I shared this new information with the ACBTF, a name that at that point, was becoming increasingly relevant to the situation. The gang hits the books and between the lot of us, we discover that Pike County is a hotbed of abandoned mines, that eastern Kentucky is home to some of North America’s most expansive systems of underground caverns, and KY as a whole has a history of some very strange UFO sightings. One adventurous Task Forcer even went so far as to call the Pike County State Police station. Their response was that “space aliens are reported all the time”.
I emailed Dave and requested some evidence for the second time, reiterating that if he was truly serious about having us come to Kentucky, we needed some pretty solid proof that we weren’t being jerked around.
He never emailed back.
Until last weekend.
My apologies for the time it has taken me to reply to your previous email. The situation at my home had become unbearable and we chose to stay with my wife’s family out of state until an appropriate solution can be reached. I am at my wits end.
This afternoon my brother-in-law and I traveled back to the house for the first time in over a month, as I needed to check on the security of my property and gather some belongings. The house seems relatively untouched, leading me to believe that the creatures’ motives were driven by the presence of my family. As you requested, I brought a camera back to the property for the purpose of photographic evidence.
While my home was free of tampering, I was able to find a trail of prints that match the size and shape of those previously left by the creatures on my property. The prints lead into the woods behind my home, following a stream that runs near the mine. My brother-in-law, an avid sportsman, can not identify the tracks despite his skepticism. Perhaps you know of someone better suited to identify these prints.
I will be spending the next two nights in my home and will send more images should the opportunity present itself. I am looking forward to your thoughts.
These are the attached images:

It doesn’t take a long hard look to see that the footprints are strange. The question is, of course, are they strange because they’re fake, because they belong to an animal whose prints we aren’t used to seeing, or because they belong to a creature we can’t identify?
Seeing as we were now out of the realm of pure anecdote and into potential photographic evidence, I posted the clearer of the two images here at WF and asked for the help of readers in identifying them.
You guys didn’t disappoint. So far I’ve seen theories about wild hog tracks, bear tracks, three-toed humans (and Sasquatches) to name a few, though my favorite was the reader who suggested it was a man on stilts with monster feet stuck on the end. Another reader sent the photo to the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Department, who so far can’t identify the print but won’t declare it fake either.
Commenter “Isis” drew our attention to the fact that this sighting mirrors the Dover Demon case, dealing with a creature that matches the same description, down to a three-toed footprint. “Mysterian” mentioned that during the Fouke Monster sightings in the 70’s, a Texarkana newspaper published a very similar photo.
It was stated several times that getting an image of the prints next to a yard stick would greatly help in determining the creature’s size. As promised, David delivered. He delivered big time. This arrived the following day:
“The creatures came out the woods late last evening. I have enclosed photographs taken to the best of my ability given the situation. I have also enclosed photographs of the creature’s footprints alongside a measuring stick. My brother-in-law is not as skeptical as he was when we arrived and we will be leaving before dark this evening. I look forward to hearing back from you.”
The following image of the tracks show the prints measuring in around six inches, with a distance of a little over a foot between each:

Also attached were three images of the creatures that David claims terrorized his family. The EXIF data shows that the images were snapped, sans flash, with a digital zoom of 2.1. The model camera is a Canon a630. The photos were taken at 6:01 AM on June 19th.

As you can see, even with the images cleaned up, the photos are anything but conclusive, with the first being the best of the bunch by a long shot. I almost didn’t bother posting the second two images, but relented in the hopes that someone else may find some value in them. I’m assuming that the image on the left is supposed to be a profile view of the creature. The image on the right just looks like a dinosaur to me, but I guess if we’ve come this far we shouldn’t rule that out either.
One member of the ACBTF, Robyn Montella, took the time analyze the most striking photo, coming up with some interesting results

(see chart to the left – click for full size). The International Center for Fortean Zoology is currently doing some research of their own, and we’re still waiting to hear what else the Kentucky Dept. of Fish and Wildlife has to say about the new evidence. If anyone else feels like taking a crack at some in-depth analyzation, I’d be more than happy to provide you with the high res images. Drop a line to editor(at)whofortedblog.com and I’ll get them to you.
So, that makes everything just about current. I’ve not received any further emails from David, but you can be sure that I’ll share them with everyone when I do. You have the story, you have the photos, and now we’d like you to share your own thoughts about the case.
Between the blurry images of purported space goblins, the clear photos of unidentifiable footprints, tales of anti-extraterrestrial guerrilla forces led by men with fake names, and the similarities to a handful of different visitation cases over the years, we’ve got a whole bunch of questions. We’re hoping you can help us answer them. You know, preferably before we decide to drive to Kentucky and die in an abandoned mine shaft. Or some strange man’s sex dungeon.
Can you identify the footprints? Do you recognize the creature in the photos? Who is Terry Wriste? Why would a space faring species go barefoot? Is it even an extraterrestrial? The list goes on. If you have theories, answers, or musings on any and all things involving this case, by all means, share them with us.
And for what it’s worth, the Alien Cave Base Task Force is still recruiting. And we have t-shirts.

[For the record I think the creature that left the footprints has nothing to do with the "Spaceman" photograph. The object in the photograph looks to me like a model. But there has to be something to the tracks and they are a separate mastter from thids photograph-DD]

Some Speculations on the Freshwater Monkey Anatomy

After several behind-the-scenes and Online discussions with Tyer Stone on the matter, I have a few suggestions on what the skeletal anatomy of the Freshwater Monkeys are like. They are basically large macaques on a par with the bigger macaques such as the bear monkeys o Southeast Asia, and there are big males which are about normal human size seen commonly in the USA. This may be a geographical variation or it may be a new development triggered in response to environmental disturbances by humans. Traditionally, the creatures are usually small (3-5 feet tall being a common general range of estimations) they are very powerful swimmers and divers relying primarily upon their very developed hind legs and large flipperlike feet, either of which are often compared to the legs and feet of frogs. It would seem that their feet are disproportionately large in conparison with most human beings and even bigfoot: whereas a human being's height might commonly be seven times the length of the foot and a Bigfoot's height more like a sixth, in the case of the Freshwater monkeys it is probably more like a fifth of the height or even larger. The crreatures are also possessed of very large, bulging, glassy and reflective eyes, usually heavily lidded in daylight, which also remind witnesses of frogs or lizards. The head is surrounded by a prominent ruff or mane of hair all around, but coming out in all directions from the center of the top of the head, which therefore has something which looks like a depression or a bald spot.
These are the skulls of South American owl mokeys which I chose as most likely representing the proportionate size of the eye sockets. The owl monkeys are New World monkeys and the Freshwater monkeys areOld World monkeys and so there are some differences between them, including the number of teeth. The Freshwater monkeys also seem to have cheek-pouches which they use to store food, which is one of the characteristics of the Old World Monkeys.

(Images of Macaques taking to Water)

Here is my initial diagram comparing the track of Momo (one of the "Frogfoot" series of tracks common in the midwest: some of these are also counted as "Devil Monkey" sightings) to a large macaque monkey. It was in this diagram I first pointed out what looked to me like the stump of the hallux (big toe) on the inside. Further examoination of depictions of Japanese Kappas made it seem more likely that the first and fifth toes were vestigial but variably expressed in the living animals, but that even if a fairly obvious stub of a big toe was seen by witnesses, it was situated in such a way that it did not imprint upon the track. Therefore I made up a hypothetical diagram for the bone structure of the webbed "Flipper" foot and it is reproduced below. In this case it is the other foot from the original diagram shown above, in both cases the reduced hallux is on the medial side of the track.

I would imagine that the weight of a FW monkey that left a humansized track would be less than half the weight of the human, the actual weightbearing part of the foot is quite small in comparison. So if you had a 12 inch FW monkey track it would go with a five foot tall FW Monkey and it would weigh less than a chimpanzee at the same height, perhaps 75 to 85 pounds. The usual FW Monkeys  would be smaller than that and range usually 15 to 30 kg or 30 to 60 pounds approx.

BTW, if I am correct in my re-assessment of the proportions, "Momo" would be closer to five feet tall rather than the reported seven feet or more. In discussing  similar reports, Loren Coleman also noticed that the common run of NAPES sightings were less than human size but some sightings said seven feet or more. He then quoted Heuvelmans as saying 'A hair-covered creature always seems larger than it really is' in regards a report of a 7-foot-tall monster that had left a 10-inch track: we are dealing with exactly that situation again in the case of Momo and the Fouke Monster. In other words, the North American variant of Freshwater Monkeys might not actually be outsized as compared to other populations, only reported as being so.

Water-Monkey

..And just because I had it handy, a cast of one of those lopsided coyote tracks I was talking about.
PS, for convenience I have concocted the Latin genus name "Hydromacaca" to refer to the FW Monkey. It is only provisional and only time can tell if it shall become an accepted genus in the official Taxonomic catalogues.

Best Wishes, Dale D.

Momo the Frogfoot

Momo Stalks the Midwest

Mysterious monster sighted in county

By Raymond Castile

Illustrator Hal D. Crawford drew this image for the 1970 book "The Aliens" by Crawford, Hayden Hewes and Kietha Hewes. It depicts a creature associated with 1950s UFO landings. Momo eyewitnesses in Louisiana, Mo., claimed the illustration looked almost exactly like the creature they saw during the summer of 1972. Used with permission.

Does a real-life monster roam the Missouri wilderness?

Witnesses claim to have seen a huge, hairy, hulking creature stalking the woods and lonely country roads. The creature is similar to the well-known Bigfoot of the Pacific Northwest, only more otherworldly. It has glowing orange eyes, a pumpkin-shaped head, three-fingered hands and leaves three-toed footprints. Unlike the shy Bigfoot, this aggressive creature is known to kill animals and antagonize humans.
Its name is Momo – the Missouri Monster.
Momo sightings have been reported throughout Missouri, even in St. Charles County. But the most famous sightings occurred in Louisiana, Mo., a town of fewer than 4,000 people. Located in Pike County, Louisiana lies 75 miles northwest of St. Charles County.

Bigfoot-like creatures have been reported in the Louisiana area since the 1940s, but it was not until the early 1970s that Momo attracted serious interest.
Bigfoot researcher Loren Coleman describes the now-legendary Momo scare in his book, "Bigfoot! The True Story of Apes in America."

According to Coleman, the Momo saga began in July, 1971. Joan Mills and Mary Ryan were driving along Highway 79, north of Louisiana, when they allegedly saw a hairy creature that made disturbing gurgling noises. The women described the thing as "half ape and half man."
The most notorious sighting took place one year later. On the afternoon of July 11, 1972, 8-year-old Terry Harrison and his 5-year-old brother, Wally, were playing in their backyard at the foot of Marzolf Hill on the outskirts of Louisiana. Their older sister, Doris, was inside the house. Doris heard her brothers scream. She looked out the bathroom window and saw a black, hairy manlike creature, standing by a tree.
The thing appeared to be six or seven feet tall. Its head sat directly atop its shoulders, with no visible neck. The face was likewise invisible, completely covered by a mass of hair.
The youths reported a chilling detail – the creature, streaked with blood, carried a dead dog under its arm

A local farmer reported his dog had disappeared. A neighbor reported hearing terrible growling sounds that afternoon.
Edgar Harrison, the children's father, also heard loud growls the evening of July 14. He and several other people smelled a strong, unpleasant odor as they investigated the area around Marzolf Hill. Investigators later reported smelling a similar stench, like rotting flesh.
On July 21 Momo revealed itself to Ellis Minor outside his home on River Road. It was around 10 p.m. when Minor heard his dogs barking. He grabbed a flashlight and stepped outside, expecting to see an intruding dog.

Instead, he saw a 6-foot-tall monster standing in his yard. The black, hairy creature turned and ran.

According to a July 23, 1972 story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, police sealed off a 200-acre wooded area while a team of 25 hunters searched for the creature, which many believed to be a black bear. Police received reports of a creature crossing the highway with a dog or sheep in its mouth. Another witness told police that the creature lifted the back of his automobile.
Not all hunters used guns. Many used pencil and paper.
Bigfoot investigators swarmed Louisiana, interviewing witnesses and taking plaster casts of the creature's unusual three-toed footprints. One of the preeminent researchers was Hayden Hewes, director of the Oklahoma City-based Sasquatch Investigations of Mid America.
"What impressed me was the willingness of people to talk to us. Normally people are reluctant to talk about these things," said Hewes, 61. "This was not just one person spitting in a can, saying `yes sir, I saw it right over there.' These were good quality people who were enthusiastic about what was going on."
Hewes said he was impressed with the witnesses' sincerity.
"These people didn't want to sell something. They didn't want publicity. They just wanted to share their stories. I never got any inkling that there was a hoax."

The Momo scare lasted only two weeks, but it triggered a media frenzy. Television and newspaper journalists from across the nation descended on the small town.
"I did close to 75 television and newspaper interviews," Hewes said. "They flew me to Chicago to do some television there. There were people around us shooting documentaries. We haven't had a case that well-documented since."
Sasquatch Investigations of Mid America is an offshoot of the International UFO Bureau, an organization Hewes founded in 1957.
"We researched Bigfoot sightings in eight states, mainly to see if there was any connection with UFO sightings," he said. "With Momo, we found there was no correlation whatsoever with UFOs."
Hewes said his investigations suggest there are families of nocturnal Bigfoot creatures that continuously migrate across the nation from the Pacific Northwest to the southeast.
"The path begins around Oregon and Washington state," he said. "It crosses Oklahoma around the first week of September, then finishes in Florida."
When he is not conducting paranormal investigations, Hewes runs a talent agency and works in warehouse distribution in Oklahoma City. Hewes has a degree in aeronautical and space engineering from the University of Oklahoma.
While Hewes and other researchers concentrated on Louisiana, one team of investigators focused on sightings in the St. Charles County vicinity.
John Schuessler was living in O'Fallon during the Momo scare. Schuessler worked for McDonnell Douglas as a group engineer for life support systems on the Sky Lab space station, then later as director of flight operations for the Johnson Space Center in Houston.
In 1969, Schuessler helped establish the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), an international collective of UFO researchers. The 71-year-old Schuessler still directs the organization from its headquarters in Colorado.
The Momo scare coincided with a rash of UFO sightings, including reports near his home in O'Fallon. The possible UFO connection intrigued Schuessler, so he joined the Momo investigation. Schuessler found no connection between Momo and UFO activity, but he did investigate two incidents that corroborated the presence of Bigfoot creatures in the region.
On June 30, 1972, a month before the Harrison sighting in Louisiana, two young men from Troy were fishing on a secluded bank of the Cuivre River near Cuivre River State Park in Lincoln County. The fishermen, named Vaughn and Tim, stood atop a high bank overlooking an unusually low bank on the river's opposite side.
According to Schuessler, Vaughn noticed a splash and looked up.

"They said they saw something wading across the river – a big, hairy thing. They didn't know what it was," Schuessler said. "Vaughn said, `Hey Tim, look at that silly hippie wading across the river.' Then they realized it was not a hippie."

The men described the creature as standing taller than a normal man and hairy all over, Schuessler said. Like the Louisiana creature, the Troy monster's hair completely covered its face. Its head looked like a dome resting on its shoulders.
Tim scrambled up a hillside while Vaughn held his ground. The creature continued its deliberate march toward him. Vaughn finally panicked and ran. The men found a conservation officer and returned to the scene.
"All they found were fresh, three-toed footprints where the creature came out of the water," Schuessler said.
Schuessler inspected the area the next day and found the prints.
"They were large prints, but I couldn't tell what made them," he said. "We looked for hair, but found nothing but tracks."
Schuessler said Vaughn and Tim seemed honest and genuinely frightened. Schuessler also interviewed the conservation officer.
"He said he'd gotten a lot of weird reports out of the park, but he didn't pay attention to them. I think he wanted to stay at arm's length from it all," he said.
Another Momo sighting took place July 24 near O'Fallon, just after the final Louisiana sighting. Two teenage girls reported seeing a hairy creature at sunset walking along the edge of a wooded area. The O'Fallon incident is mentioned in "The Bigfoot Casebook" by Janet and Colin Bord, but Schuessler does not remember the details.
"It was not as vivid as the Troy sighting," he said.
Momo must have enjoyed his sojourn in St. Charles County, because the creature apparently passed through town again four years later.
The "Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization" Web site lists Momo sightings in 29 Missouri counties, including a 1976 report from St. Charles County. According to the report, two people were in a boat on the Missouri River near Highway 40-61 when they saw what appeared to be a 6-to-7-foot tall creature covered in dark brown hair. The creature was drinking from the river when it saw the boat, stood up and ran into the trees.
Another local story is posted on the "Bigfoot Encounters" Web site. Mark Richardson, of Modesto, Calif., claims to have seen the creature in 1979 when he was living in St. Peters.
According to Richardson, he and a friend were on a railroad bridge over Dardenne Creek one night. Richardson saw shadows moving and assumed it was his friend.
To his shock, he discovered it was an 8-to-9-foot-tall creature with long, matted brown hair covering its body and face. Its shoulders were five feet wide. Its three-fingered hands hung below its knees.

The creature smelled like rotting hair and screamed like a panther. Richardson claims it lifted the railroad timbers and tried to grab his friend.

The two escaped and ran home.
Richardson claims he knows other people who saw the St. Peters creature. He could not be reached for comment.
So is Momo real? Investigators like Schuessler say the sincere testimony of eyewitnesses cannot be dismissed.
"There is definitely something going on," Schuessler said. "I just don't know what it is."

A "Swamp Monster" Mask off the internet. What is interesting this time is that the segmented sections of the face are not scales but are patces of hair showing how the hair tracts are meant to lie when slicked down, there is the typical bony structure around the eye sockets, a hint of a sagittal crest, and a small fringing beard in the jowly  areas (Presumabluy more beard would show and the hair around the face bush up when dry)o seems to indicate a flat nose with two nostrils facing ahead that can be shut off by valves, long upper lip and the ears which look large when they are exposed, when the mane hair is slicked down. The ears being so large shows an early form of the aquatic adaptation, in a more evolved stage the ears should be reduced to the minimum possible.
In Momo the shaggy mane around the head is very shaggy and can obscure the face from some views when the hair is thoroughly dried and fluffed-out.es th larger and the contrast between the "Pumpkinheaded" Momo and the West-coast Sasquatch was noted in all of the original press releasesp of reports was going on in the 1970s.

A chart showing how the swamp monster or "Frogfoot" foot might develop from the foot of a large monkey, if the type of track is actually legitimate. It should be noted that the "Fouke Monster" in Arkansas is supposed to leave the same tracks and such tracks also show up in Florida. On the other hand, these are quite unlike the hoaxed alligator tracks and the toes do not correspond to that type. The outline drawing is from Sanderson's chart of footprints in the appendix of Abominable Snowmen and represents an old male rhesus macaque.

Feet and Tracks, Outsized Monkeys and Apes
The Woadd-al-uma of the Nile and swamps of the Sudan [and in Lake Chad?] might be a giant water-loving macaque related to the Barbary ape and parallel in size to the Chinese giant macaque (photos of hands and feet from PURSUIT illustrated previously)

--In this case we can see the parallel to the "Frogfoot" track plus the odd form of the opposed big toe, gone missing in the more advanced type of foot. The alternative hypothesis would be that this is a peculiar form of water-loving gorilla: that seems less likely now. The track and information about the Woadd el-Umma is from Heuvelmans and never translated into English yet.
But it would seem we have an even earlier stage of a "Missing Link" in the aquatic-monkey adaptive radiation.

"Frogfoot" in the Midwest

http://kentuckycryptids.blogspot.com/2010/10/lizard-man.html
[This was a matter that was going on over a large portion of the Midwest generally at the time and over the next couple of decades, only the national press was not aware of the fact and witnesses in the different states were not aware there were other witnesses in other states that were reporting the same thing. I was one of the ones personally involved in investigations at the time. At the time I remember distinctly that Reptoids were not spoken of in the UFO or Fortean communities and I was about the only one I knew of that even talked about such things as Reptoids in the mid-1970s.-DD]

The Lizard Man

Stephensport, Breckenridge County
In the early fall of 1966, Joe, a 9 year old boy at the time, woke up to a loud thrashing noise outside of his bedroom window at approximately 1:00am. He went to his window to peak outside, but there was nothing in view. Naturally, Joe went to his living room to investigate the sound that continued to bang against his house. When he came to the living room, he pulled back the curtains of the front door window – to his surprise, he was staring at a 5’6” to 6’ tall man of amphibious characteristics, with dark brown scales covering its entire body. The creature had webbed feet and hands, and little dark eyes. Joe recollects that the brief moment he seen the creature’s face, it appeared to have “hard,” huge rows of gills that flared out on both sides of its face, resembling that of a lizard. Joe doesn’t remember the creature having a nose, lips, muscles, or genitals, but there was a ridge-like feature starting from its forehead and running back over the top of its head.
After the brief moment Joe peered at the creature through the window, it quickly ran for the creek next to Joe’s house. Joe, yet shocked, ran to an adjacent window to catch a glimpse of it as it ran away on two legs towards a creek about 75 yards from his house.
Charlie Raymond (Investigator) and Barton Nunnelly (Sketch artist) provided a follow-up investigation of Joe’s sighting of the Lizard Man in 2006 (making Joe 49 years old at the time.) It was noted that Joe is also married, with two children in college. Joe continually stressed to Raymond and Nunnelly that the creature was “amphibious looking,” although it ran/stood on two feet. He stated that there would be no way someone would have dressed up in a costume like that considering to this day he couldn’t imagine someone owning such a life-like costume, especially 40 years ago in Breckenridge County.
Later sightings of the Lizard Man in Kentucky grew during the 70s (but have died out since) in Louisville – which makes sense, considering Louisville and Breckenridge County are close in region...
Unfortunately, these stories are the latest sightings of the Lizard Man in Kentucky. There haven’t been (to my knowledge) any sightings during the 21st century. [That could be because reports generally have a latency period before they are "Discovered" and circulated-DD]

The River Demon:

The Shawnee Indians inhabited the area surrounding what is now known as the Little Miami River. There tribe had a legend about The Shawnahooc which, roughly translated means The River Demon. As the legend goes a small group of Shawnee Indians on a hunt stumbled upon a fairly large reptilian on the banks of the river. The Indians attempted move in closer. However, upon doing so, the creature took notice of them, stood up on its hind legs, and retreated back into the river. The Shawnee people became extremely frightened upon hearing this. Believing that this creature was a demon they sent their greatest warriors to vanquish the demon or drive it from the river. The Shawnee Indians never again caught site of the creature and, according to their myths, it is believed that after seeing the warriors approach it fled.

Mamnegishi:

The Cree Indians of Eastern Canada told myths about creatures referred to as Mamnegishi. In their myths they describe the Mamnegishi as small bipedal creatures having: six fingers on each hand, a disproportionately large head, no nose, elongated limbs, no hair, and large eyes. The Cree Indians described the Mamnegishi as Mischievous creatures that took great pleasure in playing tricks on humans. The Cree Indians tell that the Mamnegishi would paint Pictographs on the Rock’s near the Rapids where they were said to have lived.

The Inzignanin:

The Indians of South Carolina that inhabited the Chicora- an area told legends of The Inzignanin, fish like humanoids that were five feet in height, covered in scales, and had fairly inflexible tails approximately 18 inches long. These Fish-men were believed to consume only raw fish and are said to have died out when the areas fish population depleted.
Wayne, New Jersey:

In November of the year 1974 a motorist on his way to White Meadow Lake in Wayne New Jersey reported seeing a large green humanoid with large"frog-like" eyes and a wide lipless mouth cross the road in front of his vehicle.

(Reptilian's) ET Alien's Are Real And True. Video
The "Frogfoot" creature as reported in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio in the 1970s especially. The creatures were not usually seen, but they commonly left big tracks like a frogman's flippers in the beds of creeks and rivers, and on sandbars, typically emerging from and going back into the water. I investigated such a trackway together with my two younger brothers in the White River (Indiana) but my youngest brother was later known to pull "Bigfoot" hoaxes and so I considered the matter as most likely a hoax or at least highly suispicious.
This is a diiagram showing how the usual carnivorous dinosaurs walked up on their toes but some of them could walk flat-footed. The flat-footed version is very close to the reported Reptoid tracks worldwide.

Three-Toed "Swamp Monster" footprint. A great many "Three-toed" tracks were hoaxed by using an alligator's foot strapped under the soles of each of yor boots, but Alligators have an extra toe off to the side which shows up and gives it all away.

Three-toed "Reptoid" track intact in clayey matrix. Such tracks are generally between one foot and two feet long, and most of them are not really all that large when compared to Bigfoot tracks. The bulk of such tracks in the USA are CALLED Bigfoot, however.

Ohio Creature Footprints

by on Jan.26, 2011, under What's Really Going On

9" to 10" footprints with three claws. Note the apparent blood droplets at top left. Click images to see full size.
“I am not used to seeing the kind of tracks in my back yard like the samples I’m attaching here. Any ideas? Looks BIG. Gulp.”
So read the email I received last week from my close friend S. with 4 photos attached (the one above was also a Coast to Coast AM Photo of the Day on 1/27/11). He lives in Franklin County, Ohio near Columbus, works in a highly visible profession and is too shy to post these images himself — but he’s also alarmed by the footprints he and his wife found in their back yard last week after the last big snowfall. Knowing of my keen interest in the ridiculous-yet-hard-to-explain, he sent them to me.
He’s been perusing BFRO’s site for sasquatch sightings in his area looking to make some kind of sense of this, but to no avail.
“The right track has blood on it — the right foot seems to indicate a foot injury,” his email continued. “We are kinda freaking out. We have spent hours combing through wild animal track books, trying to isolate and identify the tracks, hoping to come up with an explanation. WHOA. Freaking.
S.”
He says the tracks crossed through his yard and stopped at a large tree. Sadly there was no shivering juvenile squatch hiding in the tree when he looked up — but then where did it go? Did it fly away? Jersey devil? Mothman? My two cents — these aren’t sasquatch, Jersey devil or mothman prints; they’re clearly dogman prints. Perhaps it leapt from the tree onto another tree or onto his roof (he didn’t think to look there for more prints) and was gone. (UPDATE 1/27/11: I just searched and found this regarding Ohio’s “Loveland creature,” a reptilian spotted in 1955 and 1972, so I’m switching my opinion from dogman to lizardman.)
They’re real. It’s not a hoax. Your theory? He’s open to your explanations.

Apparent blood droplets, top left, spattered all along right foot path.

Below, a purported photograph of a "Lizard-Man" from Kansas and I beleve there is supposed to be a video associated with this sighting also.

REPTILIAN-ALIEN CASE FILES VIDEO -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CASE FILE #1: From: "The Reptilians: Humanity's Historical Link to the Serpent Race" by Joe Lewels, Ph.D.: "John Carpenter has kept close track of the abduction phenomenon. He is the director of abduction research for the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), one of the largest and most credible organizations dedicated to the scientific study of UFOs and abductions. Carpenter holds a master's degree in social work and is a highly qualified hypnotherapist who works as a psychiatric social worker in Springfield, Missouri. Since the late 1980s, he has worked with more than 100 abductees and compiled information on hundreds of others. In addition, he is in contact with other researchers in the field. He has been involved in 10 cases where experiencers have described reptilian entities and he is aware of researchers in other parts of the country with similar cases. Abductees often have distinct clawlike cuts and bruises on their bodies after their apparent abductions. "Carpenter summarized what he knows of these beings in his regular column, 'Abduction Notes,' MUFON UFO Journal, April 1993:'Typically, these reptilian creatures are reported to be about six to seven feet tall, upright, with lizardlike scales, greenish to brownish in color with clawlike, four-fingered webbed hands....Their faces are said to be a cross between a human and a snake, with a central ridge coming down from the top of the head to the snout. Adding to their serpentlike appearance are their eyes which have vertical slits in their pupils and golden irises." Perhaps the most frightening and most controversial part of these stories are claims that the creatures occasionally are reported to have sex with abductees.'"

CASE FILE #2: From: 'OUR HAUNTED PLANET', by John A. Keel (1968. Fawcett Publications., Greenwich, Conn.): "...The parahuman Serpent People of the past are still among us. They were probably worshipped by the builders of Stonehenge and the forgotten ridge-making cultures of South America. "...In some parts of the world the Serpent People successfully posed as gods and imitated the techniques of the superintelligence. This led to the formation of pagan religions centered around human sacrifices. The conflict, so far as man himself was concerned, became one of religions and races. Whole civilizations based upon the worship of these false gods rose and fell in Asia, Africa, and South America. The battleground had been chosen, and the mode of conflict had been decided upon. "The human race would supply the pawns. The mode of control was complicated as usual. Human beings were largely free of direct control. Each individual HAD TO CONSCIOUSLY COMMIT HIMSELF TO ONE OF THE OPPOSING FORCES... "The main battle was for what was to become known as the human soul. "Once an individual had committed himself, he opened a door so that an indefinable something could actually enter his body and exercise some control over his subconscious mind. "...the Serpent People or Omega Group, attacked man in various ways, trying to rid the planet of him. But the superintelligence was still able to look over man... God worked out new ways of communication and control, always in conflict with the Serpent People."

CASE FILE #3: From: 'CURIOUS ENCOUNTERS', by Loren Coleman (Faber & Faber., Boston, Mass. 1985) pp. 70-76: "One classic Bigfoot story, (discussed in some detail in MYSTERIOUS AMERICA) namely, the Wetzel/Riverside, California sighting on 8 November 1958, CLEARLY FITS THE REPTILIAN MODE better than the anthropoid one. Wetzel described, as you may recall, the fluorescent-eyed 'thing' as having a protuberant mouth and a body COVERED WITH SCALES, looking like leaves. Wetzel's 'thing' emerged from the Santa Ana River underbrush. "The connection to water is a strong theme in all of these accounts so it is not so surprising that the next puzzle comes from the lake monster file. Trekking up the West Coast, the following report concerns a monster that actually looks like it stepped out of the wardrobe room of the Black Lagoon movie. ...[snip]... "The Thetis monster account sounds similar to one from Saginaw, Michigan, occurring in 1937. A man-like monster climbed up a river bank, leaned against a tree, and then returned to the river. The fisherman who witnessed this appearance suffered a nervous breakdown. This Saginaw tale, the reports of clawed and three-toed prints from Wisconsin to Missouri, and other supposedly 'Bigfoot' or 'manimal' encounters perhaps should be reexamined in light of the REPTILIAN creatures from the Black Lagoon. "The big Deltox Swamp, Wisconsin flap, investigated by Ivan T. Sanderson in 1979, for example, has always been shelved with Bigfoot reports. But what is to be made of the tracks of the creature, like footprints of 'a good-sized man with swim fins.' "This trait is a more frequent characteristic in the so- called eastern Bigfoot reports than you might realize. For example, there's the case of the creature of Charles Mill Lake in Mansfield, Ohio. A green-eyed, seven-foot-tall, seemingly armless humanoid, seen late in March 1959 by Michael Lane, Wayne Armstrong, and Dennis Patterson, came out of the lake and left behind 'tracks that resembled the footgear worn by skin divers.' The thing was seen again in 1963 and described as 'luminous and green-eyed.' I examined the site of these encounters and can testify to the Charles Mill Lake's swampy affinities--certainly a good home for a Black Lagoon beast... "In 1973, during the summer, residents of New Jersey's Newton-Lafayette area described A GIANT, MAN-LIKE ALLIGATOR they had seen locally. Newspaper reporters wrote about an old Indian tale from the region that told of a giant, man-sized fish that could never be caught. In 1977, New York State Conservation Naturalist Alfred Hulstruck reported that the state's Southern Tier had 'a scaled, man-like creature (that) appears at dusk from the red, algae-ridden waters to forage among the fern and moss- covered uplands.' "The New York-New Jersey record, however, cannot compare with the overwhelming series of narratives issuing from one place in the United States, the Ohio River Valley. "Over twenty years ago, by digging into the back issues of the Louisville, Kentucky, COURIER-JOURNAL, I discovered one of those gems that has kept me pondering its meaning for two decades. The interesting little item was in the 24 October 1878 issue. A 'WIld Man of the Woods' was captured, supposedly, in Tennessee, and then placed on exhibit in Louisville. The creature was described as being six feet, five inches tall, and having eyes twice the normal size. His body was 'COVERED WITH SCALES.' This article now makes some sense. "And then almost a hundred years later, again near Louisville, there are more stories of REPTILIAN ENTITIES. In October 1975, near Milton, Kentucky, Clarence Cable reported a 'giant lizard' was roaming the forests near his junkyard. Author Peter Guttilla described the creature Cable surprised as 'about fifteen feet long, had a foot-long forked tongue, and big eyes that bulged something like a frog's. It was dull-white with black-and-white stripes across its body with quarter-size speckles over it.' "On-site field investigations by Mark A. Hall, however, indicated this 'giant lizard' RAN BIPEDALLY[in an obviously hoaxed example discussed earlier on this blog-DD], according to OTHER Trimble County, Kentucky witnesses. The Ohio River is Louisville's, Milton's, and Trimble county's northern boundary. "On 21 August 1955, near Evansville, Indiana, Mrs. Darwin Johnson was almost pulled forever into the depths of the Ohio River. In what seems to be a very close meeting with one of those creatures, Mrs. Johnson, of Godtown, Indiana, was swimming with her friend Mrs. Chris Lamble about fifteen feet from the shore when SUDDENLY SOMETHING GRABBED HER FROM UNDER THE SURFACE. It felt like the 'hand' had huge claws and 'furry' (or scaly?) palms. It came up from behind, grabbed her left leg, grabbed her knee, and pulled her under. She kicked and fought herself free. It pulled her under again. Although both women could not see the thing, they were screaming and yelling to scare it away. Finally, Mrs. Johnson lunged for Mrs. Lamble's inner tube, and the loud 'thump' apparently scared 'it' away, and 'it' released its grip. Back on shore, Mrs. Johnson received treatment for her scratches and marks on her leg. "Fortean investigator Terry Colvin passed on the information that Mrs. Johnson had a palm-print-shaped green stain below her knee that could not be removed, and it remained for several days. (Interestingly, Colvin learned the Johnsons were visited by an individual who identified himself as an Air Force colonel who took voluminous notes and warned them not to talk further about the incident. Of course, this sounds so similar to the 'Man-In- Black' encounter that is goes almost without saying.) "For anyone who has seen CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, the Ohio River encounter of Mrs. Darwin Johnson is already familiar, for her attack was foreshadowed in that movie... "1972... In March of that year on two separate occasions, two Ohio policemen saw what has become known as the 'Loveland Frogman.' Investigated by Ron Schaffner and Richard Mackey, these researchers interviewed the officers involved but have not published their names, instead using the fictitious names 'Williams' and 'Johnson.' "The first incident took place at 1:00 A.M. on 3 March 1972, on a clear, cold night. Officer Williams was on route to Loveland, via Riverside Road, when he thought he saw a dog beside the road. But when the 'thing' stood up, its eyes illuminated by the car lights, looked at him for an instant, turned, and leapt over the guardrail. Williams saw it go down an embankment into the Little Miami River, a mere fifteen or so miles from the Ohio River. He described the thing as weighing about sixty pounds, about three to four feet tall, having a textured leathery skin, AND A FACE LIKE A FROG OR LIZARD. Williams went on to the police station and returned with Officer Johnson to look for evidence of the creature. They turned up scrape-marks leading down the side of the small hill near the river. "On approximately 17 March 1972, Officer Johnson was driving outside of Loveland when he had a similar experience. Seeing an animal lying in the middle of the road, he stopped to remove what he thought was a dead critter. Instead, when the officer opened his squeaky car door, the animal got up into a crouched position like a football player. The creature hobbled to the guardrail and lifted its leg over, while constantly looking at Johnson. Perhaps it was the funny smirk on its face, but Johnson decided to shoot at it. He missed, he figured, since the thing didn't slow down. Johnson later told how he felt it was more upright than the way Williams described it. One area farmer told investigators he saw a large, FROG-LIKE OR LIZARD-LIKE CREATURE during the same month of the officers' sightings..."

CASE FILE #4: From: 'WORLD OF THE INCREDIBLE BUT TRUE', by Charles Berlitz (Fawcett Crest Books., N.Y.): "There have been numerous Bigfoot sightings in the United States and around the world. The humanlike creatures are usually said to be large and hairy with glowing eyes. During the summer of 1988, however, residents of Bishopville, South Carolina, reported accounts of a rare breed of Bigfoot: A SEVEN-FOOT-TALL LIZARD MAN WITH GREEN SCALY SKIN. According to witnesses, unlike other Bigfoot creatures Lizard Man has only three toes on each foot, as well as long apelike arms that end in three fingers tipped with FOUR-INCH CLAWS. Only the second Bigfoot to have only three fingers on each hand, and the first (discovered by Berlitz - Branton) to also have three toes on each foot. Lizard Man is the most unusual Bigfoot ever reported. "Seventeen-year-old Chris Davis first encountered Lizard Man around 2:00 A.S. on June 29. On his way home, the teen stopped near the brackish waters of Scape Ore Swamp outside Bishopville to change a flat tire. While replacing the jack in the car's trunk, he glimpsed something running across the field toward him. Jumping into his 1976 Toyota Celica, he was quickly engaged in a tug-of-war with the reptilian creature as he tried to pull the door closed. Then Lizard Man jumped onto the car's roof, where he left scratches in the paint as evidence of his attack. "Hysterical, Davis returned home and told only his parents and a few close friends about the experience. Law enforcement officers, however, interrogated him after neighbors said the boy might know something about the strange bite marks and scratches found on another car. "Davis wasn't alone in his report. Soon other reports were flooding the sheriff's office. Teenagers Rodney Nolfe and Shane Stokes, for example, were driving near the swamp with their girlfriends when Lizard Man darted across the road in front of their car. Construction worker George Holloman also claimed Lizard Man jumped at him as he was collecting water from an artesian well. "Investigating the area around the swamp, state trooper Mike Hodge and Lee County deputy sheriff Wayne Atkinson found three crumbled, forty-gallon cardboard drums. The tops of saplings were ripped off eight feet above the ground. And there were, according to Hodge, 'humongous footprints,' fourteen-by-seven- inch impressions in hard red clay. Following the tracks for four hundred yards, the officers backtracked and found new prints impressed in their car's tire tracks. According to state wildlife biologists, the footprints matched no known animal species." (This "Lizard Man" sighting was covered in one of the episodes of Tim White's "SIGHTINGS" documentary, "MONSTERS" segment, on the Fox Network - Branton).
