On the basis of the new tracks and other new data I would say that beyond any shade of a doubt the (Apelike) Orang Pendek is the same as The Little Yeti (le Petit Yeti, of Heuvelmans), the smaller Yeren  (Of Greenwell LINK), presumably the Hibagon of Japan, and the NAPES of North America (Category created by Loren Coleman but including earlier statements of Ivan Sanderson and others) Commonly also known as Swamp Ape, Wood Ape and Skunk Ape LINK & LINK.

 

 This is my statement and not the conclusion of Cliff Barackman or anybody associated with the site.

It is absolutely imperative that we determine whether this is a different species from the more usual orangutans: word so far is that they are not recognizably genetically distinct from them. That could change later, and if it changes for the one form it should change for the same series because their footprints are all similar. There is a related Latin American form but its footprints do NOT match

 

The caveat remains that "Orang Pendek" in common usage is not a specific term for only the apelike creature and it can be applied to humans as well, and that in fact the same also applies to Yeti, Yeren, Skunk Ape and so on, none of these terms are specific to any one thing in common usage.

This really does look just like an ape to me. Its back is to the camera and it is breaking branches or peeling bark, probably rooting out grubs. But everything about it looks exactly like a Chimpanzee or a small gorilla. It gets up very suddenly and it can move quite quickly. My impression is that it is not a man in a suit but of course you do not get a clear enough view to be really sure of that. IMHO the terms Skunk Ape Swamp Ape and Wood Ape all apply properly to this creature although also applied to the more usual Eastern Bigfoot types (Wood Ape is a direct translation of Dryopithecus and refers to the NAPES by researchers such as Mark Hall that believe that the Skunk Ape is actually Dryopithecus. In former times they were also called the Hairy Red Men of the Bottomlands, although that term was also confused with the Pukwudgies. The legendary name as a "Fearsome Critter" is Arbopelter (and not Argopelter)(The former name has an appropriate translatable reading, the former does not)-DD]

The Skunk Ape, also known as the Swamp Ape, Stink Ape, Florida Bigfoot, Myakka Ape, and the Myakka Skunk Ape, is a hominid cryptid said to inhabit Florida,^[1] as well as North Carolina and Arkansas, [And Louisiana, and it now turns out, also Mississippi] although reports from Florida are more common. It is named for its appearance and for the unpleasant odor that is said to accompany it. In 2000, two photographs said to be of the Skunk Ape were taken by an anonymous woman and mailed to the Sarasota County, Florida, Sheriff's Department. The photographs were accompanied by a letter from the woman in which she claims to have photographed an ape in her backyard.^[3] The woman wrote that on three different nights an ape had entered her backyard to take apples left on her back porch. She was convinced the ape was an escaped orangutan. The pictures have become known to Bigfoot enthusiasts as the "skunk ape photos."^[4]
Loren Coleman is the primary researcher on the photographs, having helped track down the two photographs to an "Eckerd photo lab at the intersection of Fruitville and Tuttle Roads" in Sarasota, Florida.^[5]
According to Chester Moore, Jr., the anonymous photographs were taken in Sarasota County near the Myakka River.^[6]

The upper part very likely is not attached to the main "Body" part. But the main "Body" does look very much like the head and body of a young orangutan, up in a tree, with the long arms hidden in the leaves and branches. It looks like an arm is coming off at the right and holding onto the nearest tree trunk on that side. It seems to have drawn up knees and a very definite orangutan face.

 

Comparing Cryptid Ape Tracks

Some Comparisons of the Yeti "Mittenfoot" track cast of Cronin as provided by Dr. Meldrum
with Asian apes (Orangutan) and some purported "Unknown" ape tracks:

First the cast compared to the foot of an adult male orangutan,

 and then the cast "Trimmed" to show only the contact (footprint) area

 

The Yeti track is more developed but the big toe does seem to come off about the same

 place as it does in the orangutan. The (uncurled) toes are much shorter and both adaptations

 are for a ground living (terrestrial) species as opposed to a tree-climbing one.

Please remember that Heuvelmans referred to the commoner reddish form of Yeti as

"The Little Yeti (Le Petit Yeti), later saying it was likely only another form of orangutan,

 and that Ivan T. Sanderson said this one was the same as the Orang Pendek

 

The fact that orangutan feet can be very variable even in the same individual at different ages makes it more difficult to say whether or not the Yetis and Orangutans or Orang Pendeks are actually completely different species. It also makes sorting out "Yeti" tracks more difficult.

 

 

 

Gordon Mullet's Eastern Bigfoot cast

Shows resemblance to both Yeti and Orang Pendek-Broader and heavier like the Yeti but  with the reduced big toe like the Orang Pendek and Orangutan.

Hoax footprint of the Honey Island Swamp Monster. From M K Davis' Facebook wall, and Davis writes: This person is Ricky Holiness. He is the discoverer of the shoe out in the swamp.

 He had to look for quite a while in his home for the shoe, but eventually found it.

 This is really a great story and Jay Michael  tells it eloquently in his documentary.

 

This same type of hoax footprint (Alligator's foot fastened to the bottom of a shoe) has been repeated elsewhere and some of the Skunk Ape, Swamp Monster or Eastern Bigfoot tracks

 (including "3-Toed tracks") come from such a source.

 The footprint does unfortunately have some similarities to the more legitimate, more apelike tracks  

 

 

Some of the Ape tracks feature a long narrow foot and heel and resemble this "Dogman" footprint (from Scott Campbell on Facebook) and are probably actually from dog footprints where the whole foot is printed and not just the paw pads, and composite tracks from more than one footprint from the dog, superimposed.

Bigfoot experiences are on the rise. Four that I know of in the last week. Maybe the Bigfoots are becoming more active, maybe more people are spending time outside. Last week, May 22,2013, my good friend Rene, her neice Ashlee and neighbor Korey came up to camp out in my yard. Before I arrived home, they went for a walk up the trail. They had quite an experience. They heard strange owl like calls and chatter. Some of this was recorded on a cell phone. Later, when I arrived home, we all heard a single whoop from across the river. After dark, we all went back up the trail. Although we heard nothing more, Gabby was very agitated for most of the night.

Another Ape in the Bush

One of my Facebook friends who publishes these photos when he finds them sent me this photo the other day and it purports to show a "baby Bigfoot" up in the branches of a tree. (This is the same individual who has sent in similar photos of "Wood Apes" that have been publicised on earlier blog entries. In this case whit is shown does look distinctly like an ape standing up in the shrubbery (enlargement in insert). It is my understanding that he does not own the photo since he has a Google copyright on the photo.

 

This is a composite drawing bof a "Wood Ape" from a Texas Bigfoot site. I consider this to be the North American equivalent to the "Yeti" and "Yeren", and that all of them may simply be relics of the "Fossil Orangutans" of Ice Age China, which were ground-dwellers and related to regular orangutans about in the same way that chimpanzees compare to gorillas. There is still the question as to whether all of these apes belong to the same species as the "Known" orangutans, but currently the fossil type IS classified as the same species. There ereally does need to be a verdict made on that point. But this means that provisionally at least, all of these other creatures are also the same species

Here is a comparison of the "Wood Ape" to a pair of young orangutans walking bipedally. the stance and the limb proportions are similar although the "Wood Ape" (and the "Yeti") seem to be more regular bipeds than the usual orangutans. Even at that,  the NAPES and Wood apes (and Skunk Apes of Florida) are known to go down on all fours and use knuckle-walking like the known anthropoid apes.

Above are the tracks of the South Tibetan "Yeti" (the "Little Yeti" or Lesser Migo, also known as the "Big Monkey" or Olo-Banda) and "Yeren" or Xing-Xing in China, which appears to be the same as the Hibagon 9etc) of Japan. The Little Yeti is identified as the same as the Orang Pendek by Sanderson. Below is a comparable track cast from Pennsylvania (in the man's right hand, at left, the one in the man's left hand is a "Frogfoot")

This Sumatran Orangutan is living the lifestyle of the Skunk Ape or Swamp Ape. In Texas, the change between Wood Apes and Swamp Apes is merely a matter of the dryness or wetness of the forests that they inhabit.
