This photo of a sedated lynx illustrates how really big the feet are. Lynx leave outsized tracks and they are sometimes reported as indicating "Lions" or "Tigers" because the tracks seem to indicate bigger cats than the lynx actually is.

Great point; I had never really thought about that! I have a photograph of a very large bobcat at my blog which probably supports your contention here as well. I'll have to keep that in mind as I investigate the occasional reports of "lions" in my area.
