I was going through al-Qazwini's bestiary and book of wonders and I saw a Persian-style dragon (Ahi or Azhi) and a hairy giant Wildman. Not my first time for seeing either of them from Persian sources but the first time I've had reproducible illustrations of them. The dragon is the local variation of the Buru and at one time it was found in both the Euphrates and the Indus, according to the old legends. It bears a remarkable resemblance to the dragons of Bhutan and China, both probably Burus underneath it all also. The giant has an approximately Neanderthal-shaped skull and has unusuial outsized dark eytes. He is is holding an iris. You can eat irises, BTW, they are related to onions and have an edible bulb.
