Rick at The Anomalist sent in this photo when the other went missing and said "was this the one you were looking for? It is from Argentina" and no, it isn't the same one but it is also obviously a ripple in the water, and not such a large one this time.
This was also called a "Snake" (Culebron or Cobralito) but there is no reason to suspect a single living creature is involved in producing the effect. The "snake" is apparently moving and has movement in the "Body", but that is due to the motion of the water.
My brother Benny adds that it could be a school of fishes all surfacing simultaneously and that he has observed the effect in the lovcal creek on a small scale.

ReplyDeleteHad you seen the video this still photo came from, you'd agree it's obviously a living creature. The head (at right end) goes above and below water several times as it moves toward the right side of the video. But is it a sea creature, snake, or line of otters, you can't tell.
There is a thread started at cryptozoology.com on 29th December which includes a link to a stabilised version. It looks exactly like an otter, probably with a second one a few lengths behind.
DeleteI rather thought the whole point was that it wasn't all one and the same living creature, which indeed it is not. The bulk of the "body" has nothing to do with the "head", which could well be an otter or something. The point is that the appearance of the set of ripples as indicating a long snakelike creature is an illusion.

I had not seen the version on Cryptozoology.com but it sounds reasonable, thanks. I do have photos of otters swimming one-behind-the-other in a line from South America on file.
